Independent Paint Supplies Celebrates 5 Years of Unwavering Growth and Success
Independent Paint Supplies (IPS) is celebrating five years of unprecedented growth and success since formation in 2019. Today IPS is Wales’ premier car, commercial and industrial paint supplier, who is “passionate about paint”.
The business was formed following the sale of FMP Motor Factors to a major national brand enabling the FMP Directors Neil Melmoth and Colin Thomas to create the new company. Immediately, Joe Thomas, Stephanie White, and Dom Thomas were appointed to the roles of Directors, recognizing the need to have a young and dynamic team of decision-makers in place to drive the business forward. Both Neil and Colin continue to have an active roles in the business.
Testament to the company’s reputation they were also invited to join TIDAL, a group of independent refinish distributors who are dedicated to offering national commitment with local care. TIDAL members are forward thinking independent distributors, that enhance their local business platform and open up national opportunities by being part of the TIDAL network.
Key Developments
Some key developments since the formation of IPS include investment in staff and the IPS fleet of vehicles in order to guarantee a minimum of next day delivery for all orders across South Wales.
In June, 2022, the company opened a new depot near Newport Road, Cardiff. This initiative came about as the company felt that the time was ripe to extend and expand services across South East Wales, meeting the growing demand from customers this area of the region.
As a result of this expansion, IPS now boasts a client base of more than 1000 clients, runs a fleet of 17 vehicles and employs 27 members of staff across their headquarters, depots and delivery teams.
This year, IPS is introducing a new online shop, bringing its comprehensive range of high-quality paint products and supplies directly to customers’ fingertips. This digital expansion makes it easier than ever for customers to browse and purchase from their extensive selection of all products.
In 2023, IPS Directors Joe and Dom were each named as one of the Body Shop 30-Under-30 Rising Stars in the UK collision repair industry; and this year the company has picked up a major accolate by taking the title of UK Supply Chain Partner of the Year in the Bodyshop Awards in Birmingham.
Customer Service Excellence
Customer service is paramount to the team at IPS. They listen to what customers want in terms of paint products and associated equipment and have sourced the best in the market from suppliers including Roar, Mipa, Mirka, Sealey, HMG Indasa, Novol, Profix, Octoral, GYS, Balsac, Selemix, QTech, Walcom, Sata and DeVilbiss… to name just a few.
No customer is too small or too large and they have a successful track record in supplying single occupant body shops to multi-franchise operations.
They understand the demands of operating in a fast turn-around industry and have the supply capability to meet customers’ tight deadlines so that work can continue seamlessly and without delays or interruptions. This is achieved through a robust stock management systems which means our customers can hold as much or as little stock as they may require.
Most of IPS’ employees have many years’ experience in the automotive, industrial and commercial paint supplies market.

In addition to leading-edge paint products, IPS supplies spray equipment and other related tools. When they introduce new equipment to their extensive range, they are also able to offer associated training to ensure clients know how to operate the equipment as effectively and efficiently as possible.
